01Warning signs
Is your switchboard holding you back?
Many homes across the Northern Beaches and North Shore still rely on switchboards installed 20, 30, or even 40+ years ago. They can't safely handle the demands of modern living — air conditioning, EV chargers, induction cooktops, home offices and pool equipment all place significant load on your electrical system. An outdated switchboard isn't just inconvenient — it's a genuine safety risk to your home and family.
Ceramic rewirable fuses
If your board still has ceramic plug-in fuses instead of circuit breakers, it's decades behind the current standard — and a clear sign the whole board is due for an upgrade.
No safety switches
Many older boards have no RCD protection at all. Safety switches are what cut the power in a fault before it becomes an electric shock — a board without them is a genuine risk to your family.
Frequent tripping or flickering
Breakers that trip regularly, flickering lights, or a burnt or discoloured board are all signs your switchboard can't safely handle the load modern living puts on it.
Asbestos backing panel
Many older switchboards across the Northern Beaches are mounted on asbestos cement backing boards — a serious health risk if disturbed improperly. We handle the safe removal as part of the upgrade.
02How it works
From old fuses to a certified Hager board — with minimal downtime
Send photos of your board
A couple of phone photos of your switchboard / meter board — front, and with the door open if it's safe and easy. Daniel assesses its condition and what's involved.
Free safety check & clear quote
Daniel comes back with a clear recommendation and an itemised quote. Prefer eyes on it first? Book the free switchboard safety check — no cost, no obligation.
Pre-built off-site, swapped in a day
We pre-build your new Hager board off-site wherever possible, so the changeover is typically 8–12 hours on site with minimal downtime.
Certified, labelled & documented
Tested and certified with a Certificate of Compliance, a printed circuit directory on the board, and before & after photos for your records.
No cost, no obligation — if your board is safe and doesn't need upgrading, we'll tell you.
03What's included
Every switchboard upgrade includes
A complete, premium service — not a quick swap and go.
Free switchboard safety check
We inspect your existing switchboard, assess its condition, identify safety risks, and provide a clear recommendation — no cost, no obligation. If your board is safe and doesn't need upgrading, we'll tell you.
Full Hager switchboard system
New Hager enclosure and Hager RCBOs on every circuit — premium European components for long-term reliability and a clean, professional finish. We don't mix brands or cut corners.
RCBOs on every circuit
Each circuit gets its own combined safety switch and circuit breaker. If a fault occurs in your kitchen, only that circuit trips — your lights, fridge and the rest of the house stay on.
Surge protection as standard
A dedicated surge protection device (SPD) is included in every upgrade to guard your home's sensitive electronics against power surges and lightning events — not an optional add-on.
Safe asbestos meter board removal
If your existing switchboard is mounted on an asbestos backing, we handle the safe removal as part of the upgrade in accordance with NSW SafeWork requirements — no separate contractor to organise.
Solar & battery future-proofing
Pre-wired provisions and spare capacity for future solar inverter and battery connections, so your board is ready when you are — no second upgrade down the track.
Printed circuit directory
Every circuit is clearly labelled with a permanent, printed directory on the board — so you and any future electrician can quickly identify each circuit.
Before & after documentation
We photograph every board before and after the upgrade, providing a clear visual record of the work completed — useful for insurance and property records.
Certificate of Compliance
All work is tested, certified, and lodged as required under NSW electrical safety legislation. Contractor Licence 470836C, backed by a lifetime workmanship warranty.

05Why Marmont
Why homeowners choose Marmont Electrical
Premium Hager systems only
We don't mix brands or cut corners on components. Every board is a full Hager system — enclosure, RCBOs, and main switch — for consistent quality, reliability, and a clean, professional finish you can see.
Minimal downtime, maximum prep
We pre-build your new switchboard off-site wherever possible, so the actual changeover on the day is as fast and disruption-free as possible. 8–12 hours on site, with most of the heavy lifting done beforehand.
Asbestos? We handle it
Many electricians won't touch asbestos meter boards — or they'll charge you extra to organise removal separately. We handle the safe removal as part of the job, so there's no extra coordination on your end.

06FAQs
Switchboard upgrade questions, answered
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
Common signs include ceramic rewirable fuses instead of circuit breakers, no safety switch (RCD) installed, frequent tripping, flickering lights, a burnt or discoloured board, or an asbestos backing behind the board. If your home is more than 20 years old and the switchboard hasn't been upgraded, it's worth having it inspected. We offer a free switchboard safety check across the Northern Beaches and North Shore — no cost, no obligation.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
A typical residential switchboard upgrade takes 8–12 hours on site. We pre-build as much of the new board as possible off-site to minimise the time your power is off and reduce disruption to your household. We'll provide a clear timeline when we quote the job so you know exactly what to expect on the day.
What are RCBOs and why do you install them on every circuit?
An RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection) combines a safety switch and a circuit breaker into one device. This means every individual circuit in your home has its own earth leakage and overcurrent protection. If a fault occurs on one circuit — say, your kitchen — only that circuit trips. Your lights, fridge, and everything else stays on. It's the highest standard of switchboard protection available, and we install Hager RCBOs as standard on every upgrade.
Why do you use Hager switchboard systems?
Hager is a premium European electrical brand known for reliability, build quality, and clean design. We use full Hager systems — enclosures, RCBOs, and main switches — because they deliver consistent performance, look professional, and are backed by strong manufacturer support. Using a single brand throughout the board also means compatibility is never an issue and the finished result is clean and uniform.
My switchboard is on an asbestos backing — can you still upgrade it?
Yes. Many older homes across the Northern Beaches have switchboards mounted on asbestos cement backing boards. We handle the safe removal of asbestos meter boards as part of your switchboard upgrade, in accordance with NSW SafeWork requirements. You don't need to organise a separate asbestos removalist — we take care of it as part of the job so the hazard is fully dealt with.
Will my new switchboard be ready for solar panels or a home battery?
Yes. Every switchboard we install includes pre-wired provisions and spare capacity for a future solar inverter and battery system. This means when you're ready to go solar, your switchboard won't need to be upgraded again — saving you time, money, and disruption. We don't install solar systems ourselves, but we ensure your board is fully prepared for when a solar installer connects your system.
Do you include surge protection?
Yes — surge protection is included as standard in every switchboard upgrade we do, not as an optional add-on. A dedicated surge protection device (SPD) is installed in the board to protect your home's sensitive electronics — TVs, computers, routers, smart home systems, and appliances — from power surges caused by lightning, grid fluctuations, and switching events.
Do I need a licensed electrician to upgrade my switchboard?
Yes. All switchboard work in NSW must be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with AS/NZS 3000 (the Wiring Rules) and NSW electrical safety legislation. DIY electrical work is illegal and can void your home insurance. Marmont Electrical holds Contractor Licence 470836C, and every switchboard upgrade includes a Certificate of Compliance (CCEW) lodged with the relevant authority.
How do I book a free switchboard safety check?
Use the form on this page — add photos of your board and Daniel will assess it and come back with a clear recommendation, usually the same day. Or call or text 0437 770 741 and we'll arrange a time to inspect your switchboard in person. Either way it's no cost, no obligation — and if your board is safe and doesn't need upgrading, we'll tell you.
